Autumn Highlights from the Secondary Use of Clinical Data Team
Launch of Data to Impact Webinar Series:
On 27 October, we launched the webinar series "Data to Impact: Advancing the Secondary Use of Clinical Data in the European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres."
The inaugural session, "Strengthening Collaboration and Alignment Among Initiatives Facilitating Secondary Use of Health Data," brought together over 200 participants and featured updates from seven key European initiatives: EUnetCCC, QUANTUM, CANDLE, eCAN plus, UNCAN.Connect, TEHDAS2 and FALCON.
The session highlighted shared challenges and opportunities for synergy, alignment and coordination to advance secondary data use within the European Health Data Space framework. A detailed meeting report will soon be shared with all participants.
In-Person Core Group Meeting in Riga:
The Children's Clinical University Hospital in Riga hosted the EUnetCCC task lead team and core group participants from 22–23 October for an in-person core group meeting to review and refine the roadmap for 2026. Discussions focused on the development of data catalogue, cancer dashboards and use cases for upcoming feasibility tests. The group also discussed legal and ethical aspects of data sharing and explored how data-driven approaches can help promote equity in childhood cancer care.
On 21 October, the task lead team held a separate meeting with the hospital's management to discuss future collaboration and strengthen partnerships across the Nordic-Baltic region. Potential for pilot projects was explored, focusing on practical international cooperation to enhance research, diagnosis, treatment and data exchange in childhood cancer.
Task 8.2.6 | Clinical Trials
Building the European Clinical Trials Engine
The Clinical Trial task goal is to ensure equal access for patients across Europe and to establish Europe as a leading destination for clinical trials.
Key activities 2025-2026:
Exchange Programs: Pair institutions and staff – trial coordinators, data managers, research nurses – to rotate between centers, learning best practices in trial set-up, monitoring and reporting.
Expert Groups: Launch thematic expert interactive online meetings to share challenges and discuss solutions; and later set up an Expert Q&A Platform to address real-world clinical trial questions.
Patient Involvement: Strengthening patient empowerment through educational material, providing multimedia toolkits that explain trial design, informed consent and co-creation opportunities.
Industry & Stakeholder Engagement: Initiate round-tables with pharma, biotech and academic sponsors to showcase EUnetCCC's unified infrastructure.

Task 8.2.7 mission is to ensure every CCC delivers structured, high-quality survivorship care integrated with prevention, digital tools and patient involvement.
Key Objectives and Progress:
The finalization of the survey & analysis of current survivorship care in Europe and continue the ongoing analysis through each Thematic Working Groups (TWGs – medical follow up/ onco-phycological care/ occupational and vocational support & social and financial care) perspective.
Develop minimal standards and criteria for survivorship care, aligned with Crane standards.
Organize data-driven teaming activities between CCCs to support implementation and knowledge exchange.
Design the Survivorship Hub Framework with patient navigation, digital tools and shared care pathways.
Strategic Partnerships: Deepened alliances with primary care, rehabilitation and patient organizations.
Task 8.2.8 | Governance, Organization and Leadership
Collegial Interviews continue successfully
This month the Collegial Interview Program continued with successful site visits taking place in Naples, where the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre visited INT Pascale and in Tromsø where the University of North Norway hosted the National Oncology Institute from Slovakia. We also completed both visits between Sahlgrenska CCC in Sweden and Kauno Klinikos in Lithuania, a candidate CCC.
The participant cancer leadership teams agreed they had learned a lot, gained several valuable and implementable new ideas from each other, built supportive new friendships and been very impressed with each other's organisations. As the Kauno Klinikos project manager confirmed "Our discussions with Sahlgrenska deepened our understanding of how scientific excellence, governance and collaboration can merge into a truly integrated and continuously evolving Comprehensive Cancer Centre".
In addition to the roundtable discussions and interviews, we also had time to see some facilities on site. In Gothenburg we had a very interesting visit to the Clinical Trials Unit and in Kaunas we were excited to see the new Biobank facility and the first MR-Linac in the Baltic states.
Task 8.3 | Dissemination & Evaluation
Final Preparations for the Annual Meeting
Task 8.3 has been working intensively to strengthen our communication efforts as we approach the First EUnetCCC Annual Meeting in Paris (6-7 November 2025). Our focus this month has been on ensuring maximum visibility and impact for the network's activities.
Supporting WP2 Communication Strategy
We continue our close collaboration with WP2 on the shared Communication & Dissemination Strategy. This month, we supported the development of key materials including the EUnetCCC Official Booklet, ensuring a unified message across all network communications.
WP8 Website Development
Task 8.3 is leading the design and communication strategy for the new WP8 website, which will become a dedicated subdomain of the official EUnetCCC website. This platform will serve as a central hub for WP8 activities, resources and updates, making it easier for partners and stakeholders to access information about our network activities.
Annual Meeting Preparations
Alongside communication activities, Task 8.3 has been supporting the logistical preparation for the Annual Meeting in Paris. We are also coordinating content creation for the event, including interview preparation – selecting the right persons for interviews across tasks, developing relevant questions and planning multimedia outputs to capture the meeting's highlights and share them with the broader network.
Looking ahead, Task 8.3 will continue to package updates from each subtask into engaging outputs and ensure strong coverage of the Annual Meeting through articles, social media and partner spotlights.
