8.2.8: Governance, Organisation and Leadership

Governance: Developing solutions and networking activities to support CCC governance

Project brief

This task aims to enhance governance structures and leadership behaviours of CCCs to boost their combined strategic and operational coordination capabilities to coordinate and improve their activities. These should encompass capabilities both within, across and beyond the units that are included in the CCCs. The activities of this task emphasises sharing experiences between CCCs and create mutual support and a joint knowledge base on governance, organization and leadership. It will be accomplished through networking activities, leadership training and organisational models that are adaptable and sensitive to context. The Task will also support EUnetCCC more widely, notably through collaboration with WP4 (Sustainabilityand piloting), and WP6 (Capacity Building) and WP9 (building local networks connected to the CCCs).

Objectives

  • Catalogue Adaptable Governance Models - Provide descriptions of organisational structures and processes that CCCs can customise to their unique contexts.
  • Launch Governance Learning Networks - Initiate sustainable, peer-led forums where CCC leaders exchange experiences, best practices, and challenges and offer guidance from relevant scientific communities.
  • Develop Leadership & Collaboration Skills - Support CCC leaders in honing strategic, organisational, and collaborative competencies needed for networked governance and leadership of the complex structures and process that most often will be that which characterizes CCCs .

How external partners can help

  • Share Governance Best Practices: Contribute case studies, SOPs, and lessons learned on organizational models, decisionmaking processes, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Participate in Twinning & Peer Interviews: Volunteer as interview hosts or mentors, offering candid feedback and context-specific insights to aspiring CCCs.
  • Host or Sponsor Leadership Events: Provide venues, speakers, or logistical support for workshops, seminars, and networking meetings—boosting accessibility across regions.
  • Offer Leadership Training Expertise: Supply seasoned facilitators or curriculum resources on strategic leadership, collaborative governance, and change management tailored to healthcare settings.
  • Advocate for Governance Innovation: Engage with policymakers and funding bodies to highlight the importance of robust CCC governance and secure resources for sustained leadership development.

Our activities

Pilot Twinning Program (Collegial Interviews) - Pair centres with variation of structural models and contextual arrangements for structured peer interviews—mapping how governance solutions are applied and adapted across diverse settings.

Reference Model Development Workshop - Synthesize and disseminate relevant insights from twinning and existing literature to draft adaptable governance frameworks—outlining decision-making structures, stakeholder engagement tactics, and accountability mechanisms.

Leadership Seminars & Workshops - Host interactive events that train CCC leaders on themes such as strategic alignment, change management, and collaborative governance in organizational structures requiring the need for advanced coordination in systems of high interal and external complexity comprising both care, research and educational activities.

Governance-Focused Networking Events - Plan and launch the leadership network for cancer-centre executives, providing a forum for ongoing dialogue, mentorship, and joint problem-solving.

Practical Governance Toolkits - Create checklists, case studies, and template documents that guide CCCs through implementing new organizational models.
